Hello in Morse code
Hello in Morse code is .... . .-.. .-.. ---: H is four dots, E one dot, the two L's are dot dash dot dot, and O is three dashes. It is one of the first words people send when they try Morse code, because it uses three of the letters you learn early.
How operators really say hello
On the air, Morse code users rarely spell out HELLO. Every letter costs time, so they use short greetings:
- GM, GA and GE for good morning, good afternoon and good evening.
- CQ (
-.-. --.-) is a call to anyone listening, the way to start a new conversation. - HI is not a greeting in radio Morse: HI HI is how operators laugh.
For a note, a card or a first try at sending, HELLO is perfect. Press Play to hear it, then try to tap the rhythm before you look at the dots.
